Foliar Feeding Foliar feeding nutrients to crops is not a new concept. The first research done on foliar feeding was completed at Michigan State University in the 1950’s. This early research indicated that plants are able to absorb nutrients through the leaves and that these nutrients can move within the plant from the leaves. Foliar feeding is very efficient. Nutrients applied on the plant are much more available than soil applied nutrients. For example, magnesium is 75x more efficient when applied to soybeans foliar than when applied to the soil. Nutrients that are applied foliar are absorbed into the plant much more rapidly than soil applied nutrients. Nitrogen when applied foliar, in the urea form, is taken up by the plant in less than 1 hour. The timing of foliar applications can be tailored to meet the needs of the plant. Nutrients can be applied foliar to the plant when plant usage is at it's highest. Alpine foliar fertilizers can help plants overcome nutrient deficiencies and stresses caused by, waterlogged soils, dry weather conditions, diseases and insects. Alpine foliar fertilizers can be applied to healthy crops, as well, to help them attain their maximum yield potential. Alpine foliar fertilizers can be applied with most pesticides to save a trip across the field. For more information contact R.A.West International. |
